Microsoft launches FREE Security Development Template

Microsoft launches Security Development Lifecycle (SDL) programme designed to enable all software developers to integrate the SDL more tightly into the development process.

The SDL Process Template for VisualStudio Team System makes writing secure code a lot easier.

The Visual Studio process template has been made available as a FREE download for MSDN subscribers. The template provides guidance on how to implement the SDL into development, offering links to online resources and explaining how to extend it to third-party security tools.

The template also takes all of the SDL requirements and populates them into Visual Studio as work items, making it as natural a process as possible.

On Tuesday, 20 Nov. (Aust Time), Microsoft announced that Visual Studio 2008 and the .NET Framework 3.5 were released to manufacturing (RTM). With more than 250 new features,Visual Studio 2008 includes significant enhancements in every edition. Developers of all levels now have a consistent, secure and reliable solution for developing applications for the latest platforms: the Web, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, the 2007 Office system, and beyond.

It's been released to manufacturing (RTM), but will still take many weeks to appear on DVD/CD - so early 2008 for a boxed copy.
